墨淵祭----井上有一作品回顧展
Yuichi Inoue: The profundity of ink

Inoue Yu-ichi was the only artist of Asian origin whose work is documented in A Concise History of Modern Painting (Herbert Read), published in England in 1959. Inoue's work broke down the traditional perception and understanding of "calligraphy". In China, the motherland of Chinese characters, Inoue has influenced Chinese calligraphy for more than forty years, and his influence extends to contemporary art as a whole, as he pioneered a new path for calligraphy. This exhibition has been organized to respond to the growing respect and interest in Inoue Yu-ichi's work in China, and It is the traveling exhibition of “Yu-ichi Inoue: Bell Toll from Japan” held at Tsinghua University Art Museum.

The exhibition features about 90 works from the 1950s, when he started working after the war, to 1985, when he was in his last year of life. Representative works from each period are categorized according to their production style, such as "Calligraphy in Single Character," in which he wrote a single kanji character on a large sheet of paper, "Calligraphy in Many Characters," in which he wrote poems and words reflecting his thoughts and philosophy, and "Conté Crayon calligraphy," in which he changed his brush to charcoal and Conté Crayon in his final years.
